Peter Wood, Chairman, founded esure in 2000 with less than 50 employees with a view to offering insurance cover primarily over the Internet. Mr Wood was the founder of Direct Line in 1985 but sold out to Royal Bank of Scotland PLC.
They offer car insurance, home insurance, travel insurance, pet insurance, van insurance and motorbike insurance.
Providing a quality service is paramount to the business and they had one million customers after only five years trading. They not only deal with customers online but also it is possible to arrange cover over the telephone.
In 2005 they launched Sheilas’ Wheels offering car insurance to be followed later by home insurance and travel insurance.
The company now employ over 1,500 staff over all its offices and only operate call centres here in the UK.
